Longford 10 – 3 Wanderers
The women’s third away game of the league took place in Longford. Wanderers travelled just under 2 hours to meet Longford at their home grounds last Sunday
During the first half of the match, Wanderers were pinned back in defence in their own 22. Longford managed to break the gain line on a few occasions but were always kept from the whitewash by a relentless Wanderers defence. Longford eventually took the decision to take 3 points from a penalty 3-0.
After several phases back and forth from both teams, Longford made it to the 5m line and drove the ball over for a try by their hooker. 10-0.
Wanderers came back stronger in the second half and retained most of the possession, their fitness proving crucial in keeping a waning Longford at bay. The warriors came extremely close to the try line twice but their efforts were upset by a knock-on and a double movement.
For the last play of the game, Wanderers took a penalty kick and ended the game at 10-3 to Longford and secured the losing bonus point.
Overall, massive improvements in terms of defence, attack and discipline. The Wanderers Women have their heads up and are ready to focus ahead of our home encounter vs Suttonians on Sunday 8th at 1pm, all support greatly appreciated.
