Message from the President

Dear Members
I wanted to write to you to give you an update on the start to our season and also to let you know about coming events and a “massive weekend” for Wanderers FC on 18th & 19th September.
First of all I would like to welcome all the new members to our club this season. I hope you will enjoy your time in Wanderers. The good news is that we have added to our playing squad this year and preseason training has gone very well leading to first team victories in our first three matches of the season. Good wins against Seapoint, Tullamore and Dundalk have seen us secure a place in the Leinster Senior League Shield semi-final (14th November).
This year the AIL has a home and away structure. With 10 teams in our division that means we will have 9 home matches and 9 away matches. We have a tough opening series of matches with our first three away games to Kanturk, Middleton and Old Crescent.  The 1st XV squad are now preparing for our first AIL match which is away to Kanturk on Saturday 12th September.
The junior rugby squad have been training for a few weeks and had a major training session in Merrion Road last Saturday. Numbers were impressive and they are well organised for the coming season. The ladies play their first league match at the end of September, and the U’20s started their training last Saturday.
Massive Weekend for Wanderers – 18th & 19th September:
Friday 18th September: Wanderers v Boyne – Aviva stadium main pitch
Our first home AIL match of the season will be v Boyne on the main pitch at Lansdowne road on Friday 18th September – K.O. 7.30. This is a really big occasion for the club and a great opportunity for the players to get to play on the main pitch. We are planning a pre match dinner (6pm) in our club house in Lansdowne Road, and I would encourage as many members and families and friends of the players to come and support the team. Please come to the match, and please also come to the pre match dinner.
Tickets for the dinner which includes entrance to the match are €20. Please contact Mick McAuley if you are coming to the dinner as we need to get an estimate of numbers.

Saturday 19th September: Strictly Wanderers – The Ballsbridge Hotel (Jury’s)
In association with Kevin Rowe Events the club are running a major fund raising event on Saturday 19th September – Strictly Wanderers. This will probably be the biggest event ever run by Wanderers and we are expecting 700 to attend what will be a very entertaining dance show. Thirty dancers have been in training over the Summer (you will know a lot of them). There will be a group dance followed by pairs dancing (Cha Cha Cha, Jive, Salsa, American Smooth, Waltz, Disco, Bollywood etc….). Brian Deane is compere, and Jim O’Callaghan, Colm O’Regan and Sybil Mulcahy have agreed to be the judges. The show will be followed by a disco and bar extension. You will find more details of this event on the Wanderers web site, or on our Strictly Facebook page or Twitter account. 
This is a major fund raising event for Wanderers and I am appealing to all members to support us by attending and bringing your friends on the night.
