Maurice Leonard, RIP: Update on forthcoming memorial publication and lecture on history of 3 Wanderers VCs

I wish to thank the many Wanderers who spoke to me before and after Maurice’s removal and funeral on 4 & 5 October 2017. As a family we appreciate how you stood shoulder to shoulder with us in our loss. Wanderers was in Maurice’s DNA and as with so many other of his qualities, it has passed on to the next generation.

Many of you asked me about the progress of a study he commissioned (rather ordered!) me to do some 12 years ago on the club’s 3 VCs. This expanded over many years into a rather larger work than Maurice had planned.  Over the last year, I had returned to work on it,  and had hoped to have it out for his 85th birthday. Sadly, I was too late. However, in his memory,  the publication and a lecture to launch it should be held in Dublin  in the next year or so.

Any Wanderer wishing to make contact with me can email me at jane.leoanardww1@hotmail.co.uk or by phone at  0044 2890691871. Many thanks again for your sympathy and for the fraternity all Wanderers showed Maurice since he first joined in the 1950s – I have his record of membership at home but not to hand.

I wish the club every success in the current season.

Yours sincerely,

Jane Leonard
