Wanderers newest test capped player
Congratulations to Wanderers newest capped international player – long standing member Emmet O’Rafferty. Emmet is cap #1151 – one of 12 players who was recognised by the IRFU this week for games which were previously not recognised as International Test Matches.
Emmet’s cap came playing Fiji on the Irish tour of New Zealand and Fiji in 1976 – a match that Ireland won 8-0. The story of the game and the tour is described wonderfully in the article here https://www.the42.ie/ireland- fiji-1976-5377300-Mar2021/. Amazingly, four Wanderers played for Ireland that day; Emmet, Tony Ensor, Joe Brady and Robbie McGrath. The touring team was coached by Wanderer Roly Meates, a future Club President.
