Big milestone as Girls mini rugby starts on Saturday mornings
Building on both the recent success of the “Give it a try” programme aimed at encouraging girls to try rugby out and also the excellent work our Leinster Rugby Club Community Rugby Officer Ger O’Reilly is doing with local schools – Wanderers are launching regular girls rugby training. It will be for girls aged 8-12 and will take place on Saturday mornings. The first session took place last Saturday in Merrion Road at 11am. The head coach is Dorothee Royer with assistance from Ger O’Reilly and some of our senior women’s players.
Any players (or parents) who are interested are encouraged to get in touch with Ger at 087-7937918. No experience necessary and the emphasis will be on fun! Spread the word.
This is fantastic progress for the club and the long-term ambition is to build a rugby pathway for girls from primary school age through to our women’s team. The links with the local primary schools also fits with our vision to build a club based in the community. Congrats to Ger O’Reilly, Dorothee Royer, Dermot Rafter and all the minis&youths team for getting this off the ground.
