Wanderers F.C. President’s Message

Trevor Montgomery

It is a great honour for me to have been elected President of Wanderers FC for the 2015/16 season. As 146th President I am hugely aware of the history and traditions of our club, and the many great men who have served as President before me.

Having joined Wanderers in 1975 I have had many years of enjoyment, and made many friends in the world of rugby. The years of playing and touring have taught me that there is no substitute for playing the game and I encourage all players to make the effort to use their playing years to make new friends, not just with their team mates but also with the opposition. Sadly nowadays I see there is less interaction between teams and players after matches and I am keen to encourage the players to reverse this trend.

I would like to welcome all our visitors to our facilities at Merrion Road and or Lansdowne Road and hope that you enjoy your day at Wanderers. You are most welcome and we look forward to meeting with you and entertaining you before the match and in the bar after the game.

A special word of thanks to all our sponsors. Wanderers are lucky to have the backing of many generous sponsors. Our main sponsors are Brancott Estate Wines of New Zealand and MSL Ballsbridge Motors, we very much appreciate their support. I would encourage all members to be aware of our sponsors and to support them where possible.

I would like to thank Greg Lynch our Director of rugby, who has done such an excellent job for the club over the past few years, and wish him every success as he directs all of our teams in the year ahead.

Congratulations to Eoghan Nihill who has been elected 1st XV captain for 2015/16. Eoghan is following in a long line of distinguished men who have captained Wanderers FC and I wish him and his squad all the best for a successful and enjoyable season.

To all the administrators and those who serve on the various committees, and the coaches, managers, bag men, medics and supporters who help with the many teams, including junior rugby, U20’s, Mini & Youths and Ladies rugby I say thank you on behalf of the club. Your time, good work and support is much appreciated.

Finally to the players at all levels I say these are your special years – train hard, give it your best effort in every match, make new friends, but most of all enjoy the season ahead.

I will endeavour to represent the club to the best of my ability in my year of office, and look forward to making many new friends and a successful season both on and off the pitch.
