The Junior Squad had a very successful foray to Liverpool at the weekend where they took on a Waterloo Veterans team for the historic ‘Percy the Pike’.
Waterloo, with a number of former representative players, took an early lead with two quick tries but once the Wanderers Chaps warmed (sobered ?) up their flowing style was a match to the Waterloo brawn.
The game was finely poised at 22-22 going into stoppage time when a truly Barbarian style move gave Wanderers the last say and a 22-27 win. Legend will have it that every member of the team touched the ball in the move … including subs !
Waterloo were fantastic hosts albeit a bit envious when the saw they gap in their Clubhouse wall where Percy had been hanging for a number of years. We hope to entertain Waterloo here next year and revive the fixture, which was first played in 1935, as an annual match.
