A message from the Director of Rugby Welcome to the new Wanderers FC website. The idea of the upgrade is to keep members and guests up to date with the weekly activities in the club. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sean Scaife and Fabrice for all their hard work in organising the site maintenance. It is a huge honor for me to hold the position of Director of Rugby in a club steeped in Rugby Tradition. The main goal is to structure the club in a solid way to create the environment to develop both players and coaches from one season to the next. During the off-season a great deal of work has been going on behind the seasons, and again I would like to credit the work being done by the executive committee in this regard. The 2010-11 season brings with it a new dawn for Wanderers FC. Moving to the state of art Aviva stadium is very exciting for all members, both playing and non-playing. With first class training and match facilities along with the new clubhouse, the club can go from strength to strength. Another off-season negotiation is the use of the St Michael's College gym, swimming pool and artificial surface, which will aid strength and conditioning, recovery and over use of the Merrion Road ground. In return, we welcome St Michael’s College, along with St Conleth’s for training during the week along with games on Wednesdays and Weekends at our grounds. So, pre-season begins with good numbers down preparing for their teams respective competitions. This year sees the first rugby course at Wanderers FC for all coaches and management in the club from youth, through U21’s to Junior and Senior Coaches. The idea of the course is to share ideas and develop an understanding of how we as coaches and managers can work together in order to achieve greater results both on and off the pitch. To conclude, like in business, we need to constantly look at our own operations and continue to be innovative and hard working in order to achieve greater success. A club, once standing on the shoulder of giant’s will hopefully park itself on the perch it so rightly belongs. Yours in Rugby,
Greg McWilliams D.O.R Wanderers FC
The coaching day was a great success in Wanderers FC where coaches and manager's from the youth, junior and senior section went through the paces in establishing the Wanderers Way as a collective group and shared ideas in order for the club to advance forward. Speakers on the day were Andrew Skehan, our head coach of the U 21 side, who spoke about the Defensive structure, Shane Hunt, Senior Assistant Coach, spoke about the warm up and the effects of successful planning in relation to intensive training and match day activity. James Winstanley, Head Coach of the J1 side discussed the line-out, while Greg McWilliams, the club's director of rugby, discuss the Wanderers Way from an attack point of view. We would like to thank Fergalicious for the food provided at lunch and Brian Tector for the cakes during the mid-morning coffee break
